Suzette Moyer
Hello. I have been the design director at The Philadelphia Inquirer since 2021 where I lead a team of designers, art directors and interactive and graphics teams. Previously, I was a senior design editor at The Washington Post. I helped lead a team of 45+ visual designers on the newsroom’s most ambitious stories across newspaper, digital and social platforms.
I love what I do: helping visual journalists when they reach that “ah-ha” moment; working with powerful portrait, documentary and studio photography; and collaborating with illustrators from around the world.
In 2020, I was honored with the Majeri Award for Graphic Journalism by the Department of Journalism at Ball State University, which recognizes work based on creativity, experience, innovation and industry success. “Moyer has led design teams in setting the gold standard for innovation in graphic journalism,” the chair said.
I love libraries and art museums; my favorite painting is Jules Bastien-Lepage’s “Joan of Arc.” A close second is "Spanish Dancer" by John Singer Sargent. I read to escape, all while visualizing characters and settings. My current favorite books are “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” “Homegoing,” “Crying in H Mart,” and “Zero Fail.”
I dabble in watercolors and vegan cooking. I love flowers and puzzles and magazines (old Esquires, Rolling Stones and W magazines are the bombs).
I also cherish the wonderful and talented designers, photographers, photo editors and artists I have had the privilege to work with in my career.
